In partnership with the Local Government Unit of Candon City and Synergeia Foundation, SDO-Candon City conducted a workshop on the sustainability of the School Governing Council (SGC) last June 1-2, 2021 at Ceferino’s Restaurant, Bagani-Ubbog, Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

The workshop aimed to assess the extent of participation of the SGC in the school improvement process, raise awareness on the roles of the members of the SGC in this time of the pandemic, and craft an action plan for a functional and stronger SGC. The participants were Punong Barangay/Barangay Kagawad In-Charge for Education, SGC Presidents, and Schoolheads in both elementary and secondary levels.

Mariecon G. Ramirez, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, warmly welcomed all the participants through a recorded video message. ASDS Ramirez, highlighted the importance of attending the workshop to strengthen the School Governing Council.

Anselmo R. Aludino, Schools Division Superintendent, also gave his message to the participants through a recorded video. In his statement, he said: “Coming together is progress, working together is success.”

City Mayor Ericson G. Singson, through City Councilor Angela C. Itchon, in-charge, Committee on Education, also expressed his appreciation and support for the conduct of the workshop. Mayor Singson emphasized the importance of shared leadership, governance, and responsibility. He believed that through collaboration, the community will be able to educate a child.

The representatives from each school and barangay actively participated in the workshop. Brgy Kagawad Julita Alimbuyao pledged to commit herself to quality service towards quality education.”

Likewise, Aldrin C. Molina, the SK Chairman of Darapidap, also shared their best practices of his barangay in helping the learners continue their education in the new normal by providing them school supplies and printing materials located in their Barangay Hall.

As a wrap-up activity, participants strongly manifested their support to this endeavor by crafting their own Action Plan based on the emerging needs and concerns of their respective school.
